Sir,

With reference to previous correspondence regarding the amendment of the Companies Ordinance, 1911, and terminating in your despatch No.396 of 30th November, 1928, I have the honour to enclose for your information a copy of a letter dated 3rd November, 1928, addressed to His Britannic Majesty's Consul-General, Shanghai, concerning a refund of $54,324.33 to the British American Tobacco Co. (China) Ltd., in view of the reduction in the annual China Companies fee being made effective in respect of the year

1927 in the case of that Company.

A copy of a note from the Consul-General enclosing a formal receipt from the Company is also enclosed.

As Military Contribution to the extent of

$10,864.87 was paid on this amount which was part of the

revenue of 1927, I have the honour to request your permission

to make a reduction of $10,864.87 from the final payment of itary Contribution in respect of the financial year 1928.
